About the Wood Fired Pieces
In March 2020 Michelle went upstate for a woodfiring under the direction of woodfiring master Ming Yuen Schat. After throwing the pieces in her Brooklyn studio, she went upstate and split wood, set up the tarp, wadded every piece, loaded the kiln, then stoked the flames until they consumed the kiln. The temperature hit over 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. She only fired 10 pieces. The colors and textures develop naturally from the intense heat and ash, which is also dictated by their arrangement in the kiln.
