Auriane Legendre and Barbara Sternberg:
TRANSITIONS, 2018, 11 minutes, digital video
During the month of January 2018, I was invited to join a curatorial project in the city of Monaco. The first thing you feel when you arrive is the isolation of the territory, followed by a real difficulty to approach it with sensitivity. Monaco hosts few cultural events and, as a result of the daily bustle, its sidewalks empty as soon as its offices close. On the night of January 27-28, I used this free and disconnected space to frame the work of Barbara Sternberg, a Torontobased experimental filmmaker. Using a portable projection device and a small team, we projected one of her films through the window of a moving car traveling on a random course, in search of unwitting spectators.
Phil Weisman:
Ethna’s Suite, So Long, 1986, 14 Minutes, 16mm to Digital
This film portrait of Ethna Duffy (and myself by implication) summarizes several years between us. It consists of images collected between 1974 and 1980 edited in relation to a soundtrack that consists of an audio landscape of telephonic interruptions as they are interwoven with Ethna's extemporaneous observations, recorded on a telephone answering machine between 1977 and 1978. This film reflects our mutual love and "lunacy" which was often deflected and by inference indirectly located.
